Candid photography Explained
Candid photography means a random click of a person without giving a pose. It is clicked by so unaware of the person. One of the beauties of photography is being able to catch someone in the act. It adds life to your pictures. Candid Photography is nowadays taking a special place in wedding moments that happen quickly and don’t last for long, So it’s essential that you’re prepared for any moment. Candid styles of photography are increasingly becoming popular both in general day-to-day photography but also in formal photographic situations.
Photography is art but taking a candid makes You Artist. People of this era appreciate the new kind of things related to photography. Photography is the passion of someone who loves to take pictures especially candid one. Because it doesn’t need any pose or props to define your facial expression. It’s really so precious and natural as a photographer can’t capture the same moment again. Most of all, Be confident to shoot.
Candid photos are tough to get right. It’s not just about capturing a moment. They come and go in the blink of an eye. It is a remarkable performance when the photographer performs his/her work with so much effort and zeal (passion/devotion). They are well versed with the latest techniques and types of equipment like DSLRs, Mirrorless Camera, Gimble, Drone, etc.
Weddings have changed drastically in the past few years. Couples(spouse) want more from a wedding these days, they don’t want the traditional, normal photography anymore. They want candid moments of every occasion, irrespective of if they standing in the corner or far of or harsh or low light.
To be clear, when talking about candid photos, “ I am specifically referring to unposed and unplanned shots a photographer takes”.
Flash v/s No Flash:
Many photographers, I know don’t use flash for candid wedding pictures, but flash everywhere doesn’t work. Hence use Flash or any other kind of light source in the right mix, so that the picture gives the feel of ambiance and your couple also stands out. Sometimes use flash only for backlit purposes.
Shooting Candid v/s Planning Candid Shots:
Most of the time, you want to capture people in their natural environment, but sometimes you need to also put them in the interesting frames and let them be so that you can capture the same scene in a better perfective with everyone in one frame. So throughout the wedding day, focusing on the scenes and the unplanned moment.
Always wear a smile on your face
A warm smile is the universal language of kindness. Always greet your clients to whom you’re dealing for their wedding shoots look directly in their eyes and have a gentle smile on your face so that even if they see you remotely shooting them, they will give you a cheer up and Yes! you got your candid shots.
Tips to take a snap(click) of candid pictures:–
- Focus on the moment which is unaware of the person or a group of people.
- Be at your best camera to shoot the candid.
- Sight is also an important factor to click the candid picture.
- Use Ambient light, not flash.
- Take lots of pictures to get the best candid.
- Mix up your Perspective (Always be on a Move).
